Using the Equation Editor in Google Docs and Preparing Questions

This guide will walk you through how to use Google Docs to add math equations and multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and how to export and prepare your questions using an Excel file for further use.

Part 1: Creating Questions with the Equation Editor


Steps to Use the Equation Editor:

  1. Open Google Docs

    Create a new document or open an existing one.


  2. Format Questions

    Add questions in the format like:

    Q.1) Question text here

    a) Option 1

    b) Option 2

    c) Option 3

    d) Option 4


  3. Insert Math Equations
    • Go to the Insert menu.
    • Select Equation.
    • A toolbar will appear with various mathematical symbols (fractions, exponents, Greek letters, etc.).
    • Click the required symbols or use text-based shortcuts to insert equations.

Example Questions:

Q.1)  Which linear equation has infinitely many solutions?

a) 2x=x+1

Q.2) A number increased by 350% is 81. What is the number?

a) 18

Q.3) The expression   represents the result of decreasing y by p%. What is the value of ?

a) 45

Q.4) 4(1-t)=5t2 Let t=x and t=y be the solutions to the given equation. What is the value of -xy

a) 4/5

b) .8

c) 0.8

Part 2: Downloading and Preparing for Upload

Exporting the Document

Once your document is complete:

  1. Click File.
  2. Choose Download > Web Page (.html, zipped).

Part 3: Preparing the Excel Sheet for Answers and Numeric Questions

To assign answers, subjects, and convert questions into numeric format, prepare an Excel file in the following format (without headers):

  • Ensure no headers are added in the Excel file.

Part 4: Uploading to the Testpress Portal

Steps to Upload Questions:

  1. Navigate to the Testpress Portal
    • Log in to your Testpress dashboard.

      Click on the “Question” Section

    • This will take you to the question management area.

      Create a Folder

    • Use this to organize your questions by topic or subject.

      Click on “Bulk Upload Questions”

    • Choose this option to upload multiple questions at once.

      Select “Bulk Upload by Word”

    • This allows you to upload your Google Docs-exported file (html zipped) and key Excel file.

      Upload the Files

    • Upload:
      • The ZIP file containing your .html (downloaded from Google Docs).
      • The Excel file with your answer keys and metadata.

        Submit the Upload

    • After successful upload, your questions will be processed and added to the system.

✅ That's it! You’ve now created, formatted, and uploaded your assessment content using Google Docs, Excel, and Testpress.
